Progettata dall&#8217;architetto Michelangelo Alessi e iniziata nel 1713 dopo il terremoto del 1693 che distrusse Avola Antica, dove esisteva gi\u00e0 un&#8217;antica chiesa della santa dal Quattrocento, rappresenta un esempio di architettura barocca nel Val di Noto.<span data-state=\"closed\">\u200b<\/span><\/p><h2 id=\"storia-e-ricostruzione\" class=\"mb-2 mt-4 font-display font-semimedium text-base first:mt-0 md:text-lg [hr+&amp;]:mt-4\">Storia e Ricostruzione<\/h2><p class=\"my-2 [&amp;+p]:mt-4 [&amp;_strong:has(+br)]:inline-block [&amp;_strong:has(+br)]:pb-2\">Il culto di Santa Venera, vergine e martire con radici bizantine e normanne, si radic\u00f2 ad Avola nel 1647 quando divenne patrona. La cupola croll\u00f2 nel terremoto del 1848 e fu ricostruita nel 1962 dall&#8217;ingegnere Pietro Lojacono, mentre il sagrato e gli arredi interni subirono vari restauri nel corso dei secoli.<span data-state=\"closed\">\u200b<\/span><\/p><h2 id=\"architettura-e-opere\" class=\"mb-2 mt-4 font-display font-semimedium text-base first:mt-0 md:text-lg [hr+&amp;]:mt-4\">Architettura e Opere<\/h2><p class=\"my-2 [&amp;+p]:mt-4 [&amp;_strong:has(+br)]:inline-block [&amp;_strong:has(+br)]:pb-2\">La facciata si articola in tre ordini con nicchie, effigie della santa al centro e campanile a tre archi. L&#8217;interno a croce latina con tre navate ospita la tela settecentesca della &#8220;Predica di Santa Venera&#8221; di Costantino Carasi, tele seicentesche e settecentesche, il simulacro argenteo del 1863 di Raffaele Abbate e l&#8217;organo Polizzi del 1901.<span data-state=\"closed\">\u200b<\/span><\/p><h2 id=\"significato-locale\" class=\"mb-2 mt-4 font-display font-semimedium text-base celebrazioni annuali del 1\u00b0 febbraio e processioni, legando la comunit\u00e0 avolese alla figura della santa, protettrice e predicatrice secondo la
